Git Out Yo' Head!

Let it go, let it go.
I am one with the wind and sky.
Let it go, let it go.
You'll never see me cry.
Here I'll stand, and here I'll stay.
Let the storm rage on.
My power flurries through the air into the ground.
My soul is spiraling in frozen fractals all around
And one thought crystallizes like an icy blast
I'm never going back; the past is in the past!
Let it go, let it go.
And I'll rise like the break of dawn.
Let it go, let it go
That perfect girl is gone
Here I stand, in the light of day.
Let the storm rage on!
The cold never bothered me anyway...

For those of you who don't know, this is an excerpt of one of the songs from the latest Disney hit movie Frozen. Being the Mother of a 6 year old daughter,  I have seen this movie several times and know most of the songs. I won't spoil it for you,  but this is the story of two sisters.  One has a special ability that causes harm to the other. Because she wants to protect her sister, she withdraws and isolates herself.  In the long run the two of them discover how much they need each other and that the special gifts in each of them makes the difference in the lives of everyone around them. Ultimately love conquers all.

At least that's what I got out of it lol! OK I know this is a child's story, but Jesus said we must become like children, so stay with me on this. The point I'm trying to make is...
WHAT SPECIAL GIFTS HAS GOD GIVEN YOU?! BOOM!  There it is! I said it...what have you dreamed of doing? What talent are you hiding? What relationship have you avoided investing in because you've been hurt in the past? Are you fully present in your life or are you just going through the motions?

I have been doing my best to shift some things in my life.  I have started reorganizing my priorities.  I have really started to take stock of the things that are important to me.  I have committed to using my talents. That is why I started this blog,  I have been telling so many women that the thing missing in our community is Sisterhood. I thought about sharing my thoughts and ideas on the subject for a long time...I hesitated for a long time...wrestled with the "what do I have to say's?" "Who would listen to what I have to say?" "Maybe this isn't such a great idea..."

SELF DOUBT! INSECURITY! NEGATIVITY! The Arch rivals of POSITIVE SELF TALK!  CONFIDENCE! and POSITIVITY!

Why do we let these things control us?
Why do we choose the discomfort and despair,  heck the downright DRAMA that comes with hiding who we really are?  Truth be told no one benefits from that kind of living.  There is no glory or honor in those choices.  I am encouraging you to move out of the shadows and step into the sunshine.  Simply put GO FOR IT! You wanna go back to school?  Do it! You wanna start a new business,  get yo' but in gear and lay out the plan! You wanna lose those 10 pounds? Go after it! Not sure what you wanna be when you grow up? Not certain of what your dream looks like?  That's OK too, but start asking! Begin to search your heart and ask God to show you the purpose He has for your life. Whatever it is, whatever it looks like DO IT!

As my Sister Fe told me when I was dragging my feet and not writing "Girl get out Yo' Head and do the thang!" She has pushed me when I needed it most and I have pulled her as we've traveled this journey together, each one of us stretching further than ever before....I guess the real beauty in TRUE Sisterhood is seeing and bringing out the best in each other.

Just like in Frozen what one sister perceived as her biggest flaw, the other saw as a beautiful gift. Take a moment today to encourage a sister, don't let her look at herself through negative eyes, instead allow her to see herself through YOUR eyes. Remind her of how beautiful, smart and courageous you think she is. While your at it, take a good look in the mirror. Remind yourself that you are fearfully and wonderfully made. Refuse the negative thoughts that try to invade your mind to crush your spirit. Always remember that whoever you are, you were designed by the Master planner, the ultimate creator and GOD DON'T MAKE NO JUNK!

Love you!
